May, A Better Sleep Month For Adults, Babies & Toddlers - How Get Your Baby Or Toddler to Sleep Tips

Sleep. It's the ultimate refresher and is essential to our survival, but are you and your family getting enough? Although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely take notice... until we can't sleep. Then we think about it nonstop and would pay anything for a night of uninterrupted snoozing. May is Better Sleep Month and what better time to assess your families sleep habits and make changes?

Good sleep patterns are established from a very young age, so if you have young children in the house it's time to take a look at their nightly routines and institute change.

Problem: Your child is always too cold or too hot.

May, A Better Sleep Month For Adults, Babies & Toddlers - How Get Your Baby Or Toddler to Sleep Tips

Solution: Temperature is a major issue when it comes to sleep. The ideal bedroom temperature for sleep is 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit, but seasonal conditions often come into play and can make a room too hold or cold. A few simple adjustments can make it possible for your child to sleep comfortably:

· Make sure all bedding in your child's crib is made of natural fabrics.

· Dress your child in a sleep sack made of merino, which has the natural ability to cool or insulate your child depending on the temperature. Unfortunately synthetic fabrics such as polyester can cause your child to overheat, and cotton offers little warmth, so merino is your best choice.

Problem: Your child's sleep schedule is inconsistent

Solution: Creating a consistent nighttime routine is essential for children, who on average need at least 9 hours of sleep per night. By establishing and sticking with a nightly pattern, you're giving your child the best chance to get to sleep sooner and sleep longer throughout the night. A typical nighttime routine for an under two is:

1. Dinnertime at a reasonable hour, preferably before 7pm

2. Bath or shower time. The warm water relaxes young children and signifies the end of the day. A couple of drops of lavender scented bath oil can be soothing and relaxing.

3. A short massage for babies under the age of one can be very relaxing. Again, lavender scented lotions or oils can assist.

4. Dress your child in his/her nighttime clothing. Sleep sacks are worn over your child's sleepwear and fabrics such merino or cotton are best for young children.

5. Story time with a bottle of warm milk (if necessary)

Problem: I'm a new parent and I need some sleep!

Solution: There's nothing more challenging than taking care of a new baby. The good news is, as babies grow older, they sleep for far longer periods at a time and soon will sleep through the night. In the meantime, know that erratic sleep schedules and getting up in the middle of the night will be part of your lives for the next few months. In saying that, establishing nightly routines and creating sleep associations such as dressing your child in a sleep sack can promote longer periods of uninterrupted sleep.

Problem: I'm not sure how long my child should be sleeping for.

Solution: Children need at least nine hours of sleep each night, and toddlers can be expected to take regular naps on top of this during the day. To help your kids get the sleep they need, make sure your child's bedroom is conducive to a good night's sleep - it should be cool, quiet and dark and he or she should be sleeping on a comfortable, supportive mattress, and preferably in a baby or toddler sized sleep sack.

Merino is a top choice for sleep fabrics since it can absorb up to 35% of it's own weight, compared to polyester which can be as low as 1%. Children that sleep in merino are less likely to overheat, meaning safer and better sleep for little ones.

Better Sleep Month isn't just for adults! There are several things you can do to promote healthy and safe sleep patterns for your children. Your child will never be too hot or cold when they wear a Merino Kids Baby or Toddler Sleep Bag, meaning better and longer sleep for both you and your little one.

Infertility-Fertility: Why Can't I Have A Baby?

Why can't I have a baby? That was a question I used to ask myself all the time. When you want a baby so badly, it seems that every other woman in the world just has to blink her eyes and presto! She's pregnant. You're left marinating in your own thoughts of failure, unworthiness, and not deserving to have what you consider to be the most rewarding and joyful experience of your life.

I spent 6 years trying to have a baby. It goes without saying, that's a long time! But during those 6 years I learned a lot about myself and about the way I attract what I want in my life. Initially, my husband and I decided to pursue fertility treatments. We tried medications, inseminations, and IVF twice. The medications and inseminations didn't work at all, and the IVF's ended in miscarriage and the removal of one of my fallopian tubes. We decided to discontinue our fertility treatments because we had spent about ,000 and wound up worse off than when we started. But, after doing much research, I realized that even though I was over 40, I still could get pregnant. Just because my fertility treatments failed, it didn't mean that I couldn't have a baby, it just meant that the 'high tech' route was not the answer. Afterall, I had always been an advocate of 'clean living' --- I rarely took medications, and I've always been one that enjoyed an 'all natural' lifestyle. It should have been no surprise that fertility treatments didn't work. All the drugs and hormones associated with fertility treatments basically bombarded my system with what I now consider to be toxic chemicals. Is that anyway to try to bring a child into the world? Not for me.

Now, just for the record, let me say that some women do need fertility treatments depending on their diagnosis. For instance, if your tubes are totally blocked, the only way to get around that is IVF. But for many people who fall into the 'unexplained category', fertility treatments may not be the answer. After much research, I developed a 'pregnancy protocol' which resulted in 4 pregnancies over the age of 40! Once I started getting pregnant, my problem became miscarriage, not infertility. The first 3 naturally conceived pregnancies ended in miscarriage, but as I refined my protocol and as I got healthier and more hormonally balanced, I finally carried my last pregnancy to term without complications. I was 44 when I had my beautiful daughter.

Infertility-Fertility: Why Can't I Have A Baby?

One piece of my pregnancy protocol was changing what I call my 'pregnancy mindset". When you're struggling with infertility or miscarriage, you start to believe that a successful pregnancy is impossible and you fall into the "why me?" trap.
You become a victim of infertility and "victimhood" is very disempowering. Instead you need to change your thoughts to thoughts of success. Instead of saying "I can't have a baby", you need to be happy and joyful that your baby is on the way. You need to open your heart and your mind and tell yourself that your baby will come when the time is right. The problem is that when you're so far down, it's hard to climb out. It's hard to get your hopes up only to deal with the constant disappointment of either not getting pregnant, or miscarrying.

If you were a new soul ready to make your journey into the world (or in this case - into the womb), wouldn't you prefer to come into an environment that was calm, peaceful and receptive? When you're struggling with infertility, you're usually in a place of anger, disappointment, jealousy, and frustration. Is this the environment you would choose? Honestly, I think that's one reason that some couples get pregnant after giving up their dreams of having a family or after deciding to adopt. They finally let go of their ill feelings and move into acceptance. They quit trying to force things in to place which makes room for success. Believe me, you can't force babies into anything. They will do things in their own time, on their own schedule.

One technique I used for changing my mindset was visualization. I would picture my baby in my mind. I would hold her, I would play with her, and I could feel the love for her deep down in my soul. My visualizations were so strong that I would find myself smiling without even knowing it! When you have such loving thoughts, your mindset is automatically lifted and this becomes your point of attraction. Alternately, when you're feeling angry and deprived, your point of attraction is heartache and pain and this is what you manifest in your life. I brought myself to a place where in my mind I already had a baby. If I saw other pregnant women, instead of being jealous, I would look at them and think, they have such a miracle inside of them, just like me. I planned out my maternity wardrobe, I planned my nursery, it was a done deal. When you're in the right mindset it's easy to succeed. It becomes hard to fail!

Don't be afraid to picture success. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you're going to set yourself up for disappointment. These thoughts may be keeping you from the very thing you want so much. You can create what you want in your life whether it's having a baby, or anything else. If you go back and examine your past, think of all the things you've achieved. Can you see how you manifested them? Take credit! It was no accident. Your point of attraction was success.

The Causes and Risks of Salmonella in Babies

Every year more than 15.000 cases of salmonella in children under the age of 4 are reported in the US. Infants are most likely to get infected with salmonella, compared to all other age groups.

There are several factors that make the difference if a baby contracts salmonella or not:

Breastfeeding protects against most infectious diseases and thus breastfed babies are much less likely to get salmonella. Breastfeeding is so much easier than bottle feeding - and much less work. Think how much more hygienic it is than all those dirty bottles left behind.

The Causes and Risks of Salmonella in Babies

Babies that are exposed to reptiles like turtles, snakes or lizards are more likely to contract salmonella. Please note, you should not have reptiles as pets in your home if you have children under the age of five. Go and visit a zoo if you are into reptiles.

If you put your infant into a shopping cart next to raw meat and poultry, he is more likely to get infected. So remember always to carry with you disinfectant wipes and clean the area where your child will sit. Put the unsafe items away from your child.

Babies that drink concentrated liquid infant formula are more likely to get infected. There might be several reasons for that. For once, the formula might not be sterile, or the company did not use clean and boiled water. Whatever the reason, just remember to stick with powdered formula or much better, breastfeed your baby.

A baby that attends a daycare center is more likely to get salmonella than if the child would stay at home. Point out to the caretakers that hygiene is very important to you. Check if they reinforce proper hand washing and proper diaper disposal.

Whatever the reasons, if your baby contracts salmonella, keep him dehydrated. The diarrhea he gets is not very dangerous. But it could get very dangerous if the bacterial infection gets into your baby's blood. That could then be potentially life-threatening. This can cause pneumonia, meningitis, septic arthritis or a bone infection. So whenever a very young child has severe diarrhea, get to an emergency room as soon as possible. The quicker you treat the much better chances you have for a quick recovery.

To sum up:

Breastfeeding is the number one thing you can do to protect your baby. Not only in connection with salmonella.

The next important tip is to avoid contact with any reptiles. (50% of all reptiles are carriers of salmonella bacterias.)

Always buy quality food, especially eggs. Serve the eggs completely cooked and never poached or sunny-side-up.

Always use disinfectant gel or wipes when you are out and about in the supermarket using a shopping cart. You just don't know what might have been in contact with the child's seat or in general with the cart.

Don't offer foods like raw cookie dough, chocolate mousse, ice cream that contains eggs,... to your infant.

One last thing, did you know that you cannot pass salmonella through breastfeeding to your child.

Welcome Home Baby Shower Party Celebrations

A welcome home baby shower is a shower that is held after the baby has been born. While this may not be a traditional way of celebrating the impending birth of a child, this is definitely a great way for people to get together who might not have been able to make it to the showers given before the baby is born. This is also a fun time for the new parents to introduce the newest member of their family and friends.

One thing to consider is that the parents might not want to have a welcome home baby shower until several weeks after the baby has been born. Getting acquainted with their new baby and adjusting to the new routine can be a bit overwhelming, particularly if these are brand new parents.

The shower usually is held about a month or two after the baby has been born, giving the parents time to adjust and attach to their baby. The great thing about welcome baby party is that the new mom can tell the host what they still need for the baby, such as diapers, etc. Plus having a shower will bring the family and friends together to spend some time with the new family.

Welcome Home Baby Shower Party Celebrations

When planning the welcome shower, sending the personalized welcome home baby shower invitations should be done within four weeks before the date of the party. It will be their schedule that the host will want to be sensitive to, with a new baby and his/her needs. Also indicate on the custom welcome home baby shower invitations that it is a "welcome home baby shower". Even if people attended their baby shower before the baby was born, they will see this as an opportunity to meet the baby.

Since this is not the traditional games are not necessarily something that needs to be planned. However, chances are the baby party will include other couples and their children. Organizing a party will most likely mirror setting up a family BBQ or backyard party. Ensure that the menu includes foods that will appeal to all ages, or at least have some kid specific dishes prepared.

Decorations for a party can include some balloons, if appropriate. The host should probably ask the new parents if they have any preferences, or dislikes. Remember, even though the baby is already here, this is a party for them and making the guests of honor feel welcome and important is key to a successful surprise shower.

Planning a welcome home baby shower will be a lot simpler than a traditional baby party as it will be a lot more relaxed. This is an opportune time for the parents to show off their baby and for those who have not met the baby to see him or her for the first time. When planning, don't forget the announcements and matching thank you cards as this will set the stage for a great party. Also ask the new parents of their preferences for food, date and time of day, as they now have a little one to take care of.
