Five Fun Baby Shower Themes For Boys

When a bouncing baby boy is on the way, throwing a fun baby shower for the expectant Mom will make for one special day. Choosing a baby shower theme is one of the first steps in party planning so here are five fun options for baby boys. If you want to be the hostess with the mostest, go beyond that same old boring blue theme for a boy and dare to be different. Your guests will be thrilled!

1) Frog Themed Baby Shower - A green frog theme is an excellent baby boy shower choice and today, retailers offer a wide range of shower tableware and accessories with a froggy theme. When it comes to the food for a frog themed shower, think green. Make some cucumber lily pad appetizers and some peanut butter filled celery sticks with raisins to create flies on a log if you want to give your guests a smile while they are eating. For a centerpiece that does double-duty as your gift to the Mom-to-be, consider buying a frog inspired diaper cake. Every new Mom can use diapers and this is one creative gift that is sure to impress. As for the shower games, try an old-fashioned game of leapfrog.

Babies Toddler

2) Train Baby Shower - Thomas the Train has made many-a-boy think about being a train conductor when they grow up and Thomas has made the train theme popular for both birthday parties and for baby showers. The Carter baby company has introduced a beautiful line of train themed tableware that is the perfect choice for a boy's baby shower. You can get creative setting up a real toy train set to go around the buffet table. Buy the guests inexpensive conductor's hats and be sure to incorporate the train them in the invitations and thank you notes as well.

Five Fun Baby Shower Themes For Boys

3) Old McDonald or Farm Animal Themed Shower - This shower theme is super cute for boys. You can incorporate all the barnyard animals such as pigs, cows, chickens, sheep and more into the party through the tableware, cake, and party favors. Decorate with cow print balloons and red, black and white streamers. Use a toy barn that will double as the baby shower gift as the centerpiece on the buffet or dessert table. Wilton has tons of fun barn animal cake and cupcake designs so just head to their website and do a quick search to find the perfect one for you to bake. For games, play barnyard animal charades or the name the baby animal game. Be sure to have the Old McDonald music playing when guests arrive at your ho-down! This theme is perfect for summer picnic-type showers. You could even use hay bales as seats around the picnic tables that are covered in red and white checked tablecloths.

4) Safari or Jungle Baby Shower - One of the most popular showers for boys is a King of the Jungle or safari animal baby shower that incorporates lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, and more. Create your very own jungle in your party location using tree cutouts and green paper vines. You can use stuffed monkeys to hang from the vines too. For the food, be sure to make some jungle animal cupcakes or a large Safari cake. There are instructions for an awesome Safari cake at Wilton. For the food itself, you can use animal-shaped cookie cutters to make jello-jigglers or finger sandwiches in animal shapes. An animal themed diaper cake or gift basket would make a perfect centerpiece.

5) All Star Sport Shower - If Dad is a sports enthusiast, then you can't go wrong with this shower theme. Create invitations or a shower banner that looks like a scoreboard. For the food table, lay down some fake grass turf that is painted with white lines like a football field. Serve the food on sports themed trays and be sure to have sports themed tableware like plates and napkins. And if Dad is a baseball fan, make it a "Little Slugger" themed shower instead.

Top Toys for Babies Learning to Walk

Teaching a small child how to walk can be a challenging and frustrating task for new parents. While it is a struggle for all babies and most learn to walk at different ages, if you want to help them along, you might consider one of the following two toys. There are many other available, but these two are favorites with many parents. Both have received really good reviews all over the Internet. If you want to help teach your child autonomy while they are learning to walk, both of these are really good ideas.

The Step 2 Walker Wagon with Blocks is a great wagon system that is pushed, not pulled. This can help a young child learn to walk by giving them something to support themselves with. In addition, the storage area makes a great place to clean up toys so they don't end up all over the house. The Walker Wagon is just the right size for toddlers learning to walk. Included is a set of 16 foam blocks that will give them something easy and safe to put into the wagon so they can walk around. The wagon was designed with extra stability in mind. A child playing with this wagon can have fun and learn to walk - on their own - at the same time.

Babies Toddler

The Step Start Walk-N'-Ride is another wonderful toy to help a young child learning to walk. It was specially designed to teach two unique coordination skills. For one, there's the walking. As with the wagon, this gives your small child support so they can walk around on their own. When they're tired, they can "hop in" and ride around, improving their hand and eye coordination. At a great price and built with safety in mind, this is a great toy for babies learning how to walk.

Top Toys for Babies Learning to Walk

There are many other push and pull toys out there designed to teach your child to walk. The biggest feature you should be after is stability and safety. When it comes to price vs safety, your child's safety should win. There are plenty of other toys out there to help teach toddlers how to walk, but these two are ones they will love while you're able to have peace of mind. Built with safety in mind, these "walking helpers" for children are bright, colorful, well designed, and loads of fun for babies wanting to walk on their own. That said, it is very important to always supervise your small child when they're using the walker. With more mobility, they may be able to reach a hot stove or other danger in your home. Watch your kids when they're learning to walk, especially with a walker.

Tips For Getting Pregnant With a Boy Baby

If you've found this article, you're either trying to get pregnant, want a boy baby, or both.  So, I'll provide you with tips on how to accomplish both of these goals.  Since you're trying to get pregnant anyway, you may as well tweak your efforts a little bit to get the gender that you want.  I'll tell you how to do this below.

Getting Pregnant With A Boy Requires The Most Precise Timing And The Most Preparation, But It's Not As Hard As You Think:

Babies Toddler

Most people will tell you that in order to get pregnant, you need to pinpoint your fertility window and then have intercourse as many times as possible before the window closes, hoping that one of these attempts will reward you with a pregnancy.  This will work perfectly fine if you'll be content to get either gender.

Tips For Getting Pregnant With a Boy Baby

However, if you are dead set on a son, this method will increase the odds of your having a girl.  Why? Because the sperm that produces a boy is much different from the ones that will give you a daughter.  Daughter (or X) sperm are very long lived, but slow.  Son (or Y) sperm are weak and vulnerable, but also fast.  This provides nature with needed balance, but it also provides you with opportunity.

If you conceive on the early part of your fertility window, you're allowing many viable, otherwise perfectly good boy sperm to die off before they could result in a pregnancy and you're filling your fertility tract with hardy girl sperm that have no trouble surviving for days.

So, to conceive a boy, you'll need to pinpoint the end of your window - this means the day of (or the day after) ovulation.  Yes, this technically "wastes" fertile days, but with the right tools, it doesn't necessarily matter as much as you think.

For gender selection that really works, you have to be very precise. You can do this by getting a reliable ovulation predictor (I like saliva because I find it the most accurate) but get what works for you.  Old fashioned methods like basal temperature, the rhythm method, and cervical mucus leave much to be desired in my opinion because they don't give you the exact yes / no answer that you need.

Other Ways To Get Pregnant With A Son: Intercourse Positioning:

Without a doubt, timing is essential, but it is not the only thing you'll need to address.  You'll want to send the Y sperm to their target as quickly and efficiently as you can because they are weak.  So, have intercourse in such a way that places this sperm as close to your cervix as is feasible (deep penetration).  This allows those fast little fellows every advantage.

Making Your PH Lower / Becoming Less Acidic And More Alkaline:

Even if you do everything I've already mentioned (timing, intercourse positions), there's still one more variable to address.  You need to handle the Y sperm as gently as possible. The final way to do this is to lower your vaginal acidity. The reason for this is because boy sperm can't withstand a high PH.  So, to give these guys the best chance, you'll need to become more alkaline.  So many couples are scared off by this step, but there is no reason to be. Again, the right tools make all of the difference.  And, the best tool here is a PH tester that you can get at nutrition centers or on-line.

Once you use this, you'll know where you stand. If you test and end up being acidic or need to make alterations, don't worry, you can change this.  One way to lower is through consuming an alkaline diet.  (Yes, this requires a diet for a small period of time, but it will be worth it.)  The second way to get into the "boy zone" is by using alkalizing douches (and this is usually more than baking soda.) Now, this isn't as hard as it sounds.  There are lists that will tell you what foods to eat and which douches to use.

The beauty of this process is that you can tweak it and change it as needed and continue to test yourself.  You can easily see what is working and what is not (most people have the best, fastest results using both food and douching methods).

It is said that if you address all of these variables, you can increase your chances for a boy conception to as high as about 94%. And,  you'll know, without a doubt, and without needing to guess, precisely when the time is right for you to get pregnant with the boy baby that you want.

Tips For Getting Pregnant With a Boy Baby

Conceive A Boy is a website I set up to make the process of having a son a bit easier. I've included step by step instructions and resources for the douching recipes, food lists, and PH testing strips mentioned in this article as well as hints, tips, and support. Adopt a Virtual Baby Online

Virtual pets have always been very popular, but now it's becoming more and more common to adopt a virtual baby online. This is a baby that you will look after just like a real life baby. You'll play with it, feed it, give it toys and, most importantly of all, provide it with a nice home.

When it comes to adopting your own baby on the internet you'll first need to find a website that offers the service. The good news is that more and more sites now have virtual babies to adopt for free. All it takes is a few minutes to sign up, and to do this you'll need an email address and to enter a few personal details such as your name and address.

Babies Toddler

Next you will need to choose the baby to adopt. You will be given a number of different options, after which you should enter the name and gender of your baby. It really is that quick - you now have your very own virtual baby to take care of! You are going to have to log back into the site regularly in order to make sure that your baby always stays looked after and happy. Some websites will allow you to download a program so you don't have to log in to the website all the time.

Adopt a Virtual Baby Online

Many websites that allow you to adopt a virtual baby online will also let you show off your baby on sites like FaceBook or MySpace, helping you to get your friends involved so you can all watch each other's progress.

Scavenger Hunt Riddles For Kids

Children tend to get bored easily so clues and riddles for your party need to be easy. Look around your house and examine your most common possessions or household items. Think how you can make funny quips or jokes about these ordinary stuff that are in your home. Here's an example of a one liner: "What did one potato chip say to another potato chip? Answer: Let's go for a dip. Or, can giraffes have babies? Answer: no, they only have giraffes". These funny witticisms may seem corny to older kids but for young children this will certainly send laughs all around. A question and answer clue is also easier to make than the usual riddle. This style is also easy for inexperienced clue makers or for novices who are about to host their first ever scavenger hunt. If you are still having a hard time making a question and answer type of riddle, try doing it backward. Think of an item and make a funny joke about it or just say something about it. Example: "I am smooth and sweet and fun to put in your cocoa drink" Answer: Marshmallows. It is important to note that your clues and riddles need to be appropriate for your kid's age group. As kids get older more difficult and crafty clues might be needed to stimulate the players and make the game more exciting.

Another good idea might be to host a photo scavenger hunt for kids. But unlike most photo scavenger hunt, make the game more challenging by taking a close-up photo of the items to make the hunt more tricky and entertaining. You can add clues or a general location of the certain thing in the photo and watch them hunt around matching the pattern of your photos. For pre school children who can't read yet, drawings or photos of toys and other knickknacks would be suitable for them

Babies Toddler

Most scavenger hunts end with having to award a prize to the winner who found the most items. So it might also be a good idea to make some of the clues harder to solve to make sure that the kids won't end up with the same number of items.

Scavenger Hunt Riddles For Kids

Making clues and riddles for scavenger hunt parties will get easier as time goes by. It may seem daunting at first but with practice and experience the task won't seem as overwhelming as it once did. Imagination and patience will always help. And practice may not always make perfect but it will take you as close to it!

Care for a Baby Bearded Dragon Lizard

The bearded dragon lizard, a native of Australia, is one of the most popular choices when choosing a reptile as a house pet. Mainly due to its docile and friendly disposition, this sociable reptile has been gracing pet stores and houses at an increasing rate.

Adopting the bearded dragon lizard as part of the family requires planning and care. Below are some guidelines that can be used in caring for the baby bearded dragon that will become the newest member of your family.

Babies Toddler

1. Baby bearded dragons require a lot o food to support their rapid growth rate. Between the first 3-6 weeks, feed your baby dragon about 2-3 times a day. Cricket, veggies, and greens can be used while watering can be done once or twice daily. It is rule of thumb that the food you will feed them must be about half the size as the distance between his eyes. This is to ensure that your dragon will not suffer from terminal indigestion.

Care for a Baby Bearded Dragon Lizard

2. Check for parasites regularly. Although they are parasite-free upon purchase, being bred in captivity, there is always the danger of parasite infestation once your baby dragon has been exposed to the elements, especially to the bugs, worms, and crickets he will be fed with.

3. Provide ample space for your dragon to grow in. The recommended size is a 10 gallon aquarium for a newly hatched dragon, while a 20 gallon tank is needed in the next six months due to your baby dragon's speedy growth. When your bearded dragon reaches adulthood, the size should be changed to a 50 gallon tank to provide enough space for basking, exercise and growth.

4. Clean the baby dragon's house regularly. Since bearded dragons are messy creatures, their homes must be cleaned twice a day. It is a danger for a baby dragon's health if their surroundings are not kept clean because their young age makes them more susceptible to fleas and diseases. The highest mortality rate of bearded dragons take place during their first month.

5. Provide temperature control in your baby dragon's tank. This can be done by using a temperature gradient. There should a spot warm enough for the baby dragon to bask and lie in and there should be a spot humid enough to answer to the dragon's need for water. Baby bearded dragons need water both as a drink and in the air to aid their growth in the first months of their life. Lack of humidity in the air can actually cause your baby dragon to shed.

6. Provide UV light. The light should imitate the one given off by the sun as this helps in your baby dragon's digestion. Working in a way much like photosynthesis, UV light encourages healthy digestion in your dragon. This is especially important for baby dragons as they are always in danger of indigestion due to your young age and reduced capacity to absorb food in large sizes.

7. It is recommended to use paper towels as your baby dragon's substrate. Its is clean, easy to replace when dirty, and inedible.

8. Handle your dragon daily. This will develop their trust towards humans and build their bond with you. Just make sure that you are gentle in handling them and that you never pick them up them up with their tail. They dislike this and will make them thrash about, which is harmful for your baby dragon. You may choose to scoop them up with your cupped hands.

How to Teach Your Baby to Spoon-feeding

Psychologists affirm that it is a mother, who determines an age when her child begins to eat with a spoon independently, as all matters of upbringing fall on her shoulders. Some babies could eat with a spoon even before 1 year old, whereas a baby of a too anxious mother could not eat by himself even at 2 years old. The result depends on the fact when parents allow their child to try eating at the table. And the earlier this happens, the better result will be for child.

Parental task is to support their baby's pleasure while eating.
A majority of children show a wish to eat with a spoon at 9-11 months, and, if parents encourage such independence of children, then, by 1,5 years the most persistent ones will be able to "wield a spoon" perfectly without any help.

Babies Toddler

Training for independent spoon-feeding begins at 6 months already, when a child tries to eat by himself, holding a cookie or cracker in his hand. Then at 8 months, when a baby can already sit confidently, you can seat him at the table in a children's seat and give him a spoon. If you do not do this in time, then sometimes you can see a baby snatching a spoon from a mother's hand by himself, as he feels a necessity to learn eating by himself. A mother can miss this opportunity in time or treat it as whims during a meal. However, if such thing happens during next spoon-feeding, it is better to give this spoon to a baby, and take another one for yourself. The main is to keep a baby's pleasure while the process of eating.

How to Teach Your Baby to Spoon-feeding

Some useful advices

Before each spoon-feeding fulfill a ritual of hands washing. Firstly, like any other adult member of a family, a baby also needs to wash his hands before having a meal. Secondly, this will dispose a baby to the process of eating.

It is better to buy unbreakable crockery with bright colored pictures for your baby. Put your baby's food in a special plate. On no account put all food at once on the table, as you may distract your baby's attention and he will begin requiring only what he wants.

Be ready that your baby will smear food firstly, after you give him a spoon, and then he will begin flapping the table and plate with a spoon. So, put a small apron on your baby for sure, and cover the floor with a bog oil-cloth.

If a baby throws a spoon on the floor, trying to eat with his hands - do not rail at him. Probably, he wants to eat by himself, but a "mate-spoon" seems to be a "wrecker" for him - it fails to bring food to the mouth, or throws food down the floor, or smears the food on the walls... Of course, in such case, it is easier to have a meal without a spoon. And in several days, your baby will try "taming" his disobedient spoon, looking at his father.

A child quickly discovers that it is not enough yet just to pick up a spoon. He will need several weeks more to learn scooping food and other several weeks to bring food to his mouth, not overturning a spoon. It is clear that a baby gets tired of this difficult work, so he begins playing with food. In such case you should put away everything from table, leaving just several bits of meat on a plate, so that he will have something to experiment with.

Even if a child tries hard to eat with a spoon, he will dirty himself and everything around all the same. If you nip all such impulses in the bud, then he will not be able to learn anything for a long. So it is better to provide yourself with unbreakable crockery, patience and sense of humor - and you will be glad seeing your baby's new skills and abilities every day. Moreover, his intellectual development will be much more successful, if you do not constrain it with endless prohibitions.

Parental practical work

"Our son Paul always liked eating properly. But once, before going for a walk in the afternoon, he began playing up, snatching a spoon out of my hands. Firstly, I was even angry with him, but, when I gave a spoon to my sonny and took another one for myself, I discovered that our 1,5 y.o. Paul tried to scoop a puree with a spoon by himself. Several unsuccessful attempts upset our baby a little, and he allowed us to spoon-feed him again. Since that time we allowed Paul to spoon-feed independently for a while, and then I finished spoon-feeding by myself. Little by little, time of "freedom while having a meal" increased, and quantity of food left in his plate reduced.

On his second birthday he coped with the holiday dinner by himself!"

Stacey Minsky, New-York

"I'm growing my son by myself. Probably, that is why I always try to teach Benny to independence. Since he was 11 months, I seated him in his chair, put a plate with vegetable puree in front of him and gave him a spoon. Of course, little food came to my baby's mouth, in general, the most part turned to be smeared on a chair, table, cloth... But later I could spoon-feed him from other plate without any remonstrance.

Three moths later, my sister and her 3 y.o. daughter Michelle came to our place. In the morning, seeing my Benny sitting at children's table and shoveling up porridge, he shouted: "What a shame!!! Your one can eat by himself already, and we are still spoon-feeding our Michelle!" But, after she seated her daughter at the table and gave her a spoon, she was surprised even more.... Michelle saved her face and, taking a spoon, began eating breakfast, saying: "Hum, he can eat by himself... We also eat by ourselves in our kindergarten...".
Melanie Jameson, San-Francisco.

10 Easy Early Learning Activities for Babies and Toddlers

I have spent my career researching early learning in children and babies. My carefully designed programs have achieved remarkable results, teaching babies as young as six months to read. Now, anyone can quickly and easily put their child on the path to acquiring essential learning skills by following these proven activities:

1. Use Multi-Sensory Learning

Babies Toddler

When your child shows an interest in a particular topic, try to help them learn about it using as many sensory systems as possible. If your child is interested in learning about flowers, let them see, smell, touch, and even hear the gentle sound the flower makes brushing against their ear. This type of learning is usually more interesting for the child, and more effective.

10 Easy Early Learning Activities for Babies and Toddlers

2. Respond to Your Baby

An important skill for parents is the ability to respond to the interests of their infant. This will help them more easily understand their world. The baby looking at their toes could be told, "These are your toes." This means the infant would simultaneously have visual (seeing her toes), auditory (listening to you say "these are your toes"), and haptic (feeling you touch her toes) information. This helps a young baby develop a very elaborate idea of "toes". These types of responsiveness activities may also increase their IQ.

3. Categorize

A fundamental building block for intelligence is the ability to categorize. You can stimulate your child by grouping animals or objects that are similar. For instance, your child's toys or clothes could be grouped by color, size, shape, material, or function. Simply show them and say, "This is a sock and this is a sock. This is not a sock." Your baby should enjoy the activity because they will be able to see you sort the clothing, hear your voice, touch the soft clothing, and smell the clean clothes.

4. Improve Spatial Reasoning Abilities

Studies have shown that infants who self-locomote using a walker improve their spatial abilities. This improvement may be a result of infants' increased attention to objects when they self locomote rather than being carried. Pediatricians recommend that parents not use walkers for safety reasons; however, in safe conditions, a walker can help improve an infant's spatial abilities. Reading simple maps and playing with mazes can also improve your toddler's spatial reasoning abilities.

5. Play Classical Music for Your Infant or Toddler

Play classical music for your infant or toddler on a regular basis. In a controlled study, young children who listened to classical music outperformed those who had not listened to classical music.

6. Learn a Second Language

It is easier for a young child to learn a second language than it is for adults. A recent study found that children who learned a second language after the age of 11 had two distinct areas of the brain for understanding language -- one for their native language and one for their second language. Children who learned a second language before the age of four had one large area of the brain active for both languages. This suggests that children who learn language skills in their first years are able to develop brains that are more efficient.

7. Respond to Your Infant's Sounds

If the parent responds excitedly to a baby's new sound and repeats the sound to the baby, then the connection to make that sound will have some value to the infant and it will likely be strengthened. On the other hand, if the infant makes a new sound and no one responds -- the baby will be less likely to repeat that sound. Not only does the infant probably feel more attached to caregivers who respond to their sounds, but they can learn to make more sounds when people respond.

8. Make Learning Videos for Your Child

Parents can make learning videos for their infants and toddlers. Be sure to include your family in the video. This will attract your child's attention and allow them to see you even when you are away. You may want to include your child's name and the words 'mommy' and 'daddy' in your video.

9. Play Games!

Matching games are fun. Show your infant one item, for example a tennis ball. Next, show your baby several other objects and ask him/her to find the one that matches the first object. Talk with your child throughout the game and describe how the objects are the same or different. These fun games help the child learn more about object properties such as color, material, function, shape, etc.

10. Use Different Postures During Play

Allow your infant to play while in different postures and locations. Make soft, clean, safe areas for your baby to play while on its stomach, back, and seated. Set up these play spaces in different locations. Babies may practice lifting their heads or rolling over while on their stomachs. While on their backs, infants may play with activity gyms, practice rolling, or look at objects. It may be easier for infants to explore toys while in a bouncer.

What Is The Best Size For A Baby Blanket?

Were you given a beautiful velour crib sized baby blanket at your shower? Did you try wrapping that tiny baby in the blanket, only to find you were cuddling lots of blanket and very little baby? Here are some tips to help you decide a good size blanket for the age of your baby.

Usually, a crib blanket is about 36" x 52", and will cover a standard crib mattress. While this blanket is wonderful for covering baby's crib, it's not quite as wonderful covering for baby. A crib blanket is just too big for swaddling a newborn. And we all know that a swaddled baby is a happier, more content baby.

Babies Toddler

Many lightweight, cotton receiving blankets are about 30" square. They're inexpensive, and can found in almost any department store. While that size is great to place under baby on the changing table to prevent any mishaps, it's not great for swaddling a newborn--it's just too small.

What Is The Best Size For A Baby Blanket?

A baby blanket that's about 34"-36" long in both directions, and is made of a light-to medium weight hypoallergenic fabric, like cotton or baby-weight fleece, is probably the best choice. It's large enough to swaddle a newborn, and small enough for an older child to sleep with at night. An additional plus is that, if the fabric is lightweight enough, you can roll up the blanket and stow it in a diaper bag without too much trouble.

If your looking for a gift for that next baby shower, or want to give your sister a keepsake for her new baby, consider a personalized baby blanket, about 34" - 36", made out of a light or medium weight, hypoallergenic fabric. If you want to find a baby blanket for an older baby or young child, consider buying a larger, crib size blanket. If you or someone you know is a new mother for the first time, a package (or more) of cotton receiving blankets is always a great choice.

Screaming Kids Driving You Nuts? Four Rules to Help You Keep Your Sanity!

Often I will hear parents say, "I just ignore Jr. when he has a fit or screams."

Though there may be times when this is appropriate it is not appropriate when Jr. is less than 5 years of age! Why? Because your child needs to receive training in proper and acceptable behavior. Screaming to get your own way is not proper or acceptable! If your child is screaming to get something, there are reasons he is doing this and I caution you, you may not like them!

Babies Toddler

First, your child has been taught to scream. That's right, taught. I know it isn't pleasant and I know you didn't do it intentionally, but bear with me...it is true, you taught him to scream! When babies begin to gain their independence they develop personal tastes for foods, people, their environment and even situations. In other words, they start to know what they want in life. The problem? They have a limited number of ways to communicate what they want because they have not mastered language yet. So what do they do? They wave their arms, they kick their feet, they point, they make noise, and when that doesn't work, they muster up, and let out a blood curdling scream. Yikes!

Screaming Kids Driving You Nuts? Four Rules to Help You Keep Your Sanity!

What do you do?

Guess what??? Mom comes running and often dad and sister too! So, the kid screams more. If they want something else? They scream again. The problem is if you react to this screaming by moving faster, it will stop, temporarily. It will stop until the child decides he wants something else. In reality, reacting by moving faster will make the screaming worse! Yikes again, right? The child will condition you to move a little faster and then? Then, you begin to anticipate the child's needs so that he won't scream at all. Does the word servant come to mind here? Wrong! Pretty soon the child is screaming about everything and it he sees that it works much better than the new language he is learning so he screams instead of talks! Ouch! Next thing you know, mom and dad are screaming at each other for the screaming to stop. Sound familiar?

Do you want to know the rules so the insanity will stop? (view definition of insanity here)

Rule # 1 Don't ignore it.

This is the number one thing I hear parents say that they do. It is your job as the parent to teach and train the child proper behavior. If you ignore the crummy screaming the child doesn't know the difference between acceptable or unacceptable behavior. Children need to know the boundaries if you want happy, independent and responsible children. Do you see happy people screaming to get their own way? Only unhappy adults do that! If you really want your children to grow up and respect other people, (including you), you have to teach them "why" screaming is disrespectful to others. They need the "why" behind the discipline. Train them not to scream and then give them the reason why they shouldn't scream. Remember to talk at their level. You might say, "Other people don't want to hear you scream, it hurts their ears. You must learn to control your emotions and make yourself happy. We must all respect the rights of the others in order to get along." What you are really doing is teaching them to master themselves. It is a young lesson in self-control. Mom and dad might be able to ignore screaming and fits but do we all have to endure your kid screaming? Ignoring is not the answer.

How do you do it?

Now that you know why you should train your child not to scream, how do you do it? Tell the child in a calm, level voice to stop raising his voice. Put your index finger firmly over his mouth and set him somewhere out of the way. In our household we use the bottom step of our stairway. The child must go sit on the step until they are ready to ask in a nice voice just what it is that they they want. The child is always in control of the time frame. It is their decision to stop screaming and ask nicely. As a parent, you are there for guidance. You are simply making it inconvenient for them to scream. This is incentive for them to change their own poor behavior and it avoids power struggles. If they get up from the step and they are still screaming...take them back and sit them there over and over until they get it. If they are calling your name and asking if they can get up, explain to them in a nice voice that it is their choice when they get up and they can get up when they change their mind and decide not to scream anymore.

Rule # 2 Be consistent.

If you are in a store or public area. Again, put your finger firmly over their mouth and say, "No, you may not scream, you must use a nice voice and ask for what you want." (If the child is too young to talk, consider teaching them basic signs to ask nicely for what they want. watch future issues for more on baby signing). If they continue to scream, stand your ground and discipline them according to the parenting plan you are currently working. If you haven't created your parenting plan, you may not have a course of action for this behavior. I would encourage you to get one. (Check out our parenting plan, Family by Design) If you don't have a plan, you will most certainly fall into emotional parenting and that is not good for you or the child.

Rule # 3 Don't scream at your child.

Gandhi said it perfectly when he said, be the change you want to see in other people. This is especially true with your children. Be what you want them to be because they will be what you are. Learn to control yourself and your emotions and your children will reflect that back to you.

Rule # 4 Never, ever, ever, EVER, give in to the screaming.

It is your job as the parent to teach your child to be aware of others around him and respect their rights. He is not the center of the universe. Please don't treat your child like he is or he will be an unhappy adult. If you really love him, teach him to get along with others through teaching the importance of proper behavior.

The next time you are tempted to ignore screaming, ask yourself, do you like to hear someone else's kid screaming to get their way? I think not.

Birthday Party Places For Kids Of All Ages

Most birthday parties for kids are held at the kid's home. If the party is planned right, that could be lots of fun. But there are many birthday party places for kids, and some aren't all that expensive.

For example, there are many indoor family centers that offer birthday group packages. Many have miniature golf and rides, and of course games to play. I'm frankly not crazy about these places, because there could be 10 parties going on at the same time. So if you want to have your kid's birthday party at one of these places, it's best to have it in the morning.

Babies Toddler

I think if it were my kid though, I'd rather have a party at a place where kids birthday parties are less common. That way the kids can get more attention. The exception of course is a theme park or something, where kids can be left alone to have fun.

Birthday Party Places For Kids Of All Ages

Amusement parks are a lot of fun, especially theme parks. These amusement places with rides are great for all ages, because at the larger parks there are rides from babies to adults. In fact, these are great places for teens; you can take them all to a theme park and buy them all tickets and pick them up later.

If you'd want your kids to learn something on their birthday, you can also take them to a museum. Some museums are dusty and dull, but the ones that are best for parties are hands-on, where kids can play with the exhibits. Some museums offer special group tours for kids too.

Many places around the US are now featuring children's museums. These places would be great for a birthday party. Some have special theme parties they can host, which include admission to the museum.

Not only museums, but aquariums, planetariums (kids love those), zoos, arboretums, even forest preserves often plan parties for birthdays. Most of these places have special shows too, like playing with dolphins or feeding the sharks.

Water parks are a another good place to spend a happy birthday. The only problem is that, unless they are indoors, they are seasonal. But water parks are lots of fun, offer numerous rides, and are generally inexpensive and clean!

Bowling alleys can be good inexpensive fun too. Generally they are not the best party places for kids under 9 though, but again many alleys offer packages for birthday parties.

One great place to spend a happy birthday is on a boat ride. They have those large boats around here that serve lunch and go on sightseeing tours. They always organize food and games for kids. And the adults don't have to worry about the kids running off, because where are they gonna go? Once again
though, unless you live in a warm state, boat rides are seasonal.

So I hope this gave you some different ideas on places to have birthday parties. Wherever you plan them, the important thing is for the kids to have fun and not be bored. Good luck!
