How to Handle Difficult Behavior of 2-3 Year Old Children

At the age of two to three years is when children really start learning about being independent, their favorite words become "no" and "mine" they like to think that they can do anything they want and if you believe them to think other that is where the problem comes in. Have you heard of the terrible two's? The terrible twos can be a difficult time for parents because the children are now starting to associate more with children their own age, they have no sense of fear so they believe they are in charge of even the parents. The "tantrums" become very difficult to deal with, your entire home needs to be toddler proofed and the children are very attached to the people who have been spending more time with them where as they will look at older individuals as a two or three year old like them.

The "two and three year old children stage" is the time you should really start teaching about right and wrong.. You can stay calm with your child and simply leverage all of the material things that your child wants (i.e. toys, games, anything electronic).

If you punishments, or time-outs this will be harder on you then it will on the child because you will want to cave in and give everything you have taken away from the child. If you return anything you have taken from the toddler before the lesson is learned he or she will not see your actions as serious and will continue normal behavior as if nothing has happened.

How to Handle Difficult Behavior of 2-3 Year Old Children

You want to make sure your child knows who the adult is and what his or her role is as a child otherwise you will have a major problem getting them started in daycare or preschool. Use a majority of time spent with your child providing learning activities such as reading, drawing, providing educational toys, or allowing them to help you prepare lunch or dinner. This will give the child something to occupy his or her time, as well as get into less "time out" worthy situations.

Do you want to learn exactly how to eliminate your child's out-of-control and defiant behavior without using Punishments, Time-Outs, Behavioral Plans, or Rewards?
